The beginning of the year is the ideal time to point out the new measures that will be established at the labor level in Spain. The 2019 was loaded with news in this area and the 2020 promises to be equally, even more so with the constitution of a new government.

In this article we will review the reforms that were made in the 2019 “News on labor matters 2019” and we will analyze those that have been established in the new year so far.

How well we have seen, there have been several measures that have been put in place, However, 2020 It will be a key year for the labor sector; the new measures that have been established (Until now) are the following:

Paternity leave is extended up to twelve weeks:

From 1 January 2020, the royal decree law on labor equality established the extension of paternity leave to twelve weeks. The second parent will have the obligation to enjoy the first four uninterrupted weeks after the birth of the child or the first six weeks in the case of adoption or foster care after the court decision. The remaining eight weeks can be enjoyed throughout the first year of the baby's life and the mother may give up to two weeks of her permission to the father.

Interprofessional minimum wage:

Until the royal decree of the interprofessional minimum wage for the year is approved 2020, the validity of the Royal decree 1462/2018 21 of dic., establishing the interprofessional minimum wage for 2019, that is of 30 euros / day or 900 euros / mes.

Revaluation of pensions:

The government has approved the revaluation of pensions in a 0,9% for this year. With the rise, the amount of the minimum pension for retirees of 65 years with a dependent spouse will remain in 843,3 euros / mes, the one without a spouse will remain in 683,49 euros / month and that of a non-dependent spouse in 648,68 monthly euros.

Types and bases of Social Security contributions:

At Article 7 RDL 18/2019 the extension of the maximum cap amounts and the maximum contribution base in the Social Security system, established in the Article 3 del RDL 28/2018, guaranteeing its applicability from 1 January 2020.

Reduction of contributions due to a decrease in claims:

The application of system of reduction of contributions for professional contingencies is suspended, to those companies that have considerably reduced the labor accident rate foreseen in the RD 231/2017 for quotes generated during the year 2020.
